An attorney for Kennedy made the request Friday, and the judge agreed to schedule the trial for April 20.
A cab driver accused Kennedy of punching him and using ethnic slurs on Dec. 18, when Kennedy and his team were in town to play in the SEC/Big East Invitational.
He's charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of assault, which would carry a maximum sentence of six months in jail if convicted.
Kennedy denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against cab driver Mohamed Moctar Ould Jiddou. On Friday, Jiddou filed a counter lawsuit.
