EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon is finally opening Matthew Knight Arena, the $227 million replacement for aged but beloved McArthur Court.
Southern California (10-6, 2-1 Pac-10) is the first team to visit the Ducks (7-9, 0-4) in the new building, which features a distinctive floor painted to look like it’s shaded by a forest.
The new court was supposed to debut at the start of the Pac-10 season, but it was push back in August just in case the school’s football team went to a bowl game. Smart move. It turns out Oregon went to the BCS championship.
Now that the big game – a 22-19 loss to Auburn on Monday night – is over, Oregon’s focus turned to the gala opening Thursday night of the 12,500-seat facility.
McArthur Court was the basketball team’s home since 1927.
