ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) – Cornell opens Ivy League play on Saturday night at Columbia, and the Big Red are showing signs of starting to gel after struggling at the start of the season.
The Big Red won the past three league titles and with their senior-laden lineup made it to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament last spring. But Cornell is 4-10 under new coach Bill Courtney.
Six sophomores, five freshmen and four seniors are on the roster this year, and after losing seven games by six points or fewer, the Big Red have rebounded with two wins in the last three games.
In an 86-80 victory two weeks ago over defending South Conference champ Wofford, Cornell made 18 consecutive field goal attempts and was 14 of 17 from 3-point range.
