SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -Freshman Vinnie McGhee had 23 points and five assists to help Sacramento State end a five-game losing streak by beating Montana State 78-77 on Thursday night.
Loren Leath had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Justin Williams added 12 points and the game-winning shot with 4.6 seconds left for the Hornets (3-11, 1-3 Big Sky).
Carlos Taylor had 34 points and five rebounds and Divaldo Mbunga added 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots for the Bobcats (9-6, 1-1 Big Sky).
The Bobcats battled back from a 10-point deficit to take a 52-51 lead on a basket by Taylor with 13:40 left in the second half.
The Hornets then regained the lead on a 13-2 run that ended with two free throws by Clark Woods to make the score 64-54.
Behind three contested 3-point shots by Taylor, the Bobcats prowled back to tie the game 74-74 on lay up by Mbunga with 2:30 to play.
Montana State went ahead 77-76 when Justin Williams goal tended a shot by Phil Friesen at the 1:14 mark.
After Friesen missed two free throws with 17 seconds left, Williams hit a shot from the left corner with 4.6 left on clock. Casey Durham missed a 3-point shot for the Bobcats with 1.1 second left to end the game.
The Bobcats shot 25 percent (7-for-28) from the floor, but made 20 of 22 shots from the free-throw line to end the first half trailing Sacramento State 38-34. Taylor was 10-for-10 from the charity stripe in the first half.
