CFB Week 10 Recap

The 10th week of the 2009 NCAA Football Season had plenty of upsets and surprises for the betting public.

Bet College Football
Stanford runs over Oregon
Perhaps the biggest surprise of Saturday’s college football action was Stanford’s 51-42 win over No. 7 Oregon. The Ducks were 7-point road favorites according to online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com. 92 percent of the public bets went with Oregon, but the Ducks had a letdown following their win over USC from a week prior. Stanford’s Toby Gerhart rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns as the Cardinal racked up over 500 yards of offense to get past Oregon and become bowl eligible.
Tide wins and covers
No. 3 Alabama was a 7.5-point home favorite against No. 9 LSU on Saturday. 72 percent of public bets went with the LSU, but Alabama won the game 24-15 thanks to 14 fourth-quarter points. Greg McElroy found Julio Jones for a 73-yard touchdown pass to give Alabama a 21-15 lead, and then Leigh Tiffin kicked a 40-yard field goal in the final minutes to give the Tide the cover.
Huskers upset the Sooners
No. 20 Oklahoma was a 6-point road favorite heading to Nebraska on Saturday. 85 percent of public bets went with the Sooners, but the Nebraska defense intercepted five passes from Landry Jones to keep Oklahoma without a touchdown. Nebraska had just 180 yards of total offense, including 39 yards passing, but managed to score 10 points to defeat Oklahoma 10-3 for the Huskers first win over the Sooners in five years.
Irish fall to Navy again
Notre Dame was an 11-point favorite at home against Navy on Saturday. 76 percent of the public bets went with the Irish, who had lost to Navy just one time in the previous 42 meetings. But, like 2007, Navy found a way to beat Notre Dame in South Bend. Navy never trailed and defeated the Irish 23-21 thanks to three Notre Dame turnovers and a safety by Navy in the fourth quarter. The Midshipmen rushed for 348 yards in the game and didn’t commit a turnover.
