Big 10 Football Recap

As the midpoint of conference play approaches, the Big Ten clearly appears to be separated into two tiers. Four of the six games last week were routs, including the nation's No. 1 team, Ohio State, taking care of in-state mid-major Bowling Green by a score of 35-7 at the Horseshoe.

In my opinion, the top tier is filled by the Buckeyes, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin. With limited exception, I would not expect any of these four teams to lose to the bottom seven. Wisconsin may struggle with its trip to West Lafayette in two weeks and Iowa may be given a battle at the end the season with a trip to the Twin Cities. Will one of these two games be our Big Ten Game of the Year? Only time will tell but there is a good chance.

MICHIGAN HOPES FOR WIN OVER PENN STATE DESPITE LOSS OF MANNINGHAM

Chad Henne was confident he made the right choice when he picked Michigan over Penn State.

The junior quarterback hopes to validate his decision again Saturday when he leads the fourth-ranked Wolverines (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) on the road against his home state Nittany Lions (4-2, 2-1)

Online Sports Book Bodog.com has the Michigan Wolverines listed as -6 point favorites on the road against Penn State this weekend despite the loss earlier this week of star wide receiver Mario Manningham.

College Football Notes for Week 6

The third CFB weekend of the season saw seven games between teams ranked in the AP poll, the most-ever on a single day since the AP began including 25 teams in its ranking back in 1969. It should have been a memorable day but rather it turned into an embarrassment, as both on-field officials as well as replay-booth officials affected the outcome of a number of important games, most notably Oklahoma/Oregon but including among others, BYU/Boston College and LSU/Auburn.

With the calendar turning to October, the CFB season has entered its sixth week of play and this coming Saturday, features six games between schools ranked in the AP top-25.

College Football Picks for 10/07

Clemson (-16.5, O/U 47.5) at Wake Forest: It’s funny how big wins can change a season. After the upset over Florida State, Clemson has turned into a juggernaut on both sides of the ball, outscoring opponents 103-7 in the last two games. The Tigers clean up against subpar teams, as they have put up 50 or more three times already this year. James Davis is too much for defenses to handle. Wake Forest is at the bottom of the ACC, while Clemson has risen to the upper echelon, passing Miami, Va. Tech, and possibly Florida State along the way. Clemson has covered seven of its last 10 games, and after Saturday, make it eight-of-11.
PICK: Clemson

Ohio State/Iowa Saturday Night College Football Print

Ohio State/Iowa Saturday Night College Football

The Biggest matchup in college football this Saturday takes place in Iowa City as the number one ranked Ohio State Buckeyes take on the thirteenth ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes head into this one as seven-point underdogs, but I can assure you that this won’t be a gimme game for the Buckeyes. The last time the Buckeyes were in Iowa City two years ago, the Hawkeyes handed Ohio State its worst loss under coach Jim Tressel and by loss I mean a 33-7 massacre. That was the only game in which the Buckeyes have lost by more than two touchdowns under Tressel.
