Defense Wins

Behind one of the top defenses in the nation, Washington State has bounced back from a disappointing start to the month to keep its slim Pac-10 title hopes alive. Its normally stingy defense was absent the last time it faced Arizona, however.

The 17th-ranked Cougars look to win their fifth straight game and avenge an earlier loss to the Wildcats when the teams meet Saturday at Friel Court.

Sooners Travel to Texas

Texas has shown that it can win games when D.J. Augustin is struggling. It's just easier to do when the sophomore point guard is contributing.

Game of The Year

New England had its shot at perfection.

Now it's Memphis' turn.

The top-ranked Tigers (26-0) are trying to become the first Division I men's basketball team to make it through a season without a loss since Indiana in 1976.

First, though, they'll have to get past second-ranked Tennessee, which visits Memphis on Saturday night for a rare 1-2 showdown.

Cougars Prevail

It was an astonishing sight.

There was 6-foot-10, 270-pound center Aron Baynes stealing the ball and racing the length of the court for a dunk that gave Washington State a five-point lead.

``I was lucky enough to finish it, emphasis on lucky,'' Baynes joked shortly after No. 17 Washington State beat Arizona State 59-47 on Thursday night to hold on to third place in the Pac-10.

UCLA Smacks Oregon St

With UCLA leading by 22 points at halftime, Kevin Love's thoughts wandered to Saturday's game against Oregon.

That's how little Oregon State distracted the sixth-ranked Bruins.

Russell Westbrook scored 17 points, Darren Collison had 14 points and nine assists and UCLA won 84-49 on Thursday night to increase its lead over idle Stanford in the Pac-10 to one game.
