MIAMI (AP) -Carlos Arroyo was again the starting point guard for the Miami Heat, with the team keeping Mario Chalmers in a reserve role.
Chalmers came off the bench for the first time in his 105-game NBA career Tuesday after being late for a shootaround practice, giving Arroyo a chance to start. Before the Heat played the Orlando Magic on Thursday, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he didn’t want to switch the lineup back yet.
Spoelstra said he thinks Chalmers “can go to another level,” but to get there, the second-year guard out of Kansas still needs to work on his “approach and preparation to games and practices.”
Arroyo entered Thursday averaging 5.0 points and 1.9 assists. Chalmers is averaging 9.3 points and 4.2 assists.
