NEW YORK (AP) -Denver forward Kenyon Martin was suspended for one game without pay by the NBA on Saturday, keeping him out of the Nuggets' game at San Antonio.
Martin was assessed a flagrant foul against Melvin Ely, striking him in the head with an elbow in the second period of the Nuggets' 105-99 win Wednesday over New Orleans. Ely has a fractured left eye socket and missed the Hornets' 89-80 loss at Dallas on Friday night.
Martin, who is averaging 9.0 points and 5.9 rebounds, has started 20 of 22 games.
In a written statement released by the team, Martin said he was disappointed to miss the game against the Spurs.
``What happened with Melvin in Wednesday's game was inadvertent. I apologized to him on the court and again after the game. He told me he knew it was an accident,'' Martin said in the statement.
