TORONTO (AP) -Toronto Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa underwent surgery on his left leg Tuesday and will be off it for at least 10 weeks.
No timetable has been set for Garbajosa’s return and he will remain on the inactive list indefinitely.
The 6-foot-9, 245-pounder broke a bone in his lower leg and dislocated his ankle while trying to block a shot in March. The injury ended his rookie season.
Expected to be out until training camp at the earliest, Garbajosa declared himself healthy to play for Spain at the European basketball championships in Madrid over the summer.
At first, Toronto barred him from participating after general manager Bryan Colangelo said tests showed his fractured fibula wasn’t completely healed. The sides struck a deal after the Spanish federation agreed to insure his contract.
In seven games this season, Garbajosa averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds over 10 minutes.
He was placed on the injured list on Nov. 20 after team doctors found “something unusual” in an MRI.
