PHOENIX (AP) -Alando Tucker, the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NBA draft, was assigned to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League by the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
Tucker, the Big Ten player of the year last season at Wisconsin, played in two of Phoenix's first 14 games and averaged six points and eight minutes.
The move reduced the Suns' roster to 12. Coach Mike D'Antoni said Tucker would be recalled if the Suns had a player injured for an extended period of time.
``It's the best thing for him,'' D'Antoni said of Tucker's demotion. ``He needs to improve his shooting ... to have a chance. He wants to show he can play.''
