BOSTON (AP) – The parents of a Boston Celtics fan who stopped breathing while in police custody say they do not believe an investigator’s finding that police did not contribute to their son’s death.
Cathy and Jeff Woodman say they blame the nine police officers who handled or witnessed their son’s arrest for his death.
A report released Tuesday by former U.S. Attorney Donald Stern accepted the findings of the state medical examiner, who concluded that David Woodman’s death was brought on by a heart arrhythmia that was due to a preexisting heart condition.
The report also found that police made a number of mistakes after they arrested Woodman on a public drinking charge during the Celtics’ 2008 championship celebrations.
The couple says they believe police lied about what happened.
