INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) -Shaquille O’Neal is done throwing jabs at Dwight Howard and Stan Van Gundy.
As the Cleveland Cavaliers prepare for their first game against the Orlando Magic since last season’s Eastern Conference finals, O’Neal on Monday called Howard a good player, “but nothing I haven’t seen before.”
Cleveland plays at Orlando on Wednesday.
While playing for Phoenix last season, O’Neal was critical of Howard’s “Superman” nickname, which O’Neal says he created upon entering the NBA in 1992. O’Neal didn’t want to be drawn back into the discussion Monday, saying he is focused on winning a championship.
He ripped Magic coach Stan Van Gundy last season, calling him “a master of panic” after playing for Van Gundy in Miami. O’Neal says he was simply defending himself.
