MIAMI (AP) – Whatever the Miami Heat talk about at halftime seems to be working, particularly on the defensive end.
The Heat have held teams to 26 percent shooting in third quarters so far this season, including a stunning 2 for 20 showing by Orlando in what became an easy 96-70 Miami win on Friday night.
Miami is holding opponents’ starters to 35 percent shooting. Friday marked the first time in 6 1/2 years that the Heat held a divisional rival to 70 points or less.
The offense still is working out some kinks, but Miami’s defense is already in midseason form. That has Heat star LeBron James saying even he is “a little surprised.”
