MIAMI (AP) – Ray Allen will probably find championship-ring night for the Miami Heat a bit strange.
His new teammates are getting jewelry he tried to keep them from winning last spring. He’ll be a spectator for the proceedings, since only the returning Heat players will be receiving the coveted rings.
And if that wasn’t enough, it’ll all take place Tuesday just before he faces his former team, the Boston Celtics.
Allen says he wasn’t surprised when the schedule makers decided to make the Celtics and Heat an opening-night matchup. The teams have met in the playoffs each of the past three seasons, and Miami needed seven games to oust Allen and the Celtics in last season’s East finals.
He signed with the Heat a few weeks later, and now wants to help them win more rings.
