CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Memphis Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson says he feels no pain in his left hamstring, but says it’s a “longshot” that he’ll play in Wednesday’s season opener against Detroit.
Iverson joined the Grizzlies in Charlotte on Thursday and worked out before Friday’s exhibition game. Iverson says he can run and cut without difficulty, but he’s not been cleared to play by the training staff because of fears he may re-injure the leg.
The 34-year-old Iverson has been out since he tore his hamstring in a scrimmage on Oct. 4. While Wednesday’s game against his former Detroit team is one he’d like to play, he says he wants to be smart about the injury. He didn’t think he would miss many regular-season games.
