DENVER (AP) – George Karl is back on the bench after beating cancer for the second time.
And he’s still coaching star forward Carmelo Anthony, but for how long?
Anthony has been the subject of trade speculation ever since he spurned a three-year, $65 million extension with the Denver Nuggets in June.
The Nuggets were close to sending Anthony to New Jersey last month. But that deal fell apart when the team’s new brain trust decided to seek a sweeter package of players and picks for the All-Star forward.
Now, the New York Knicks appear to be the front-runners if they can put together an acceptable package to take Anthony to the Big Apple.
The Nuggets are hoping he’ll have a change of heart, however, and decide to stay in Denver.
