WASHINGTON (AP) – John Wall scored 19 points in his home debut Tuesday night and the Washington Wizards cruised to a 107-92 victory over the winless Atlanta Hawks.
The overall No. 1 pick from Kentucky received loud cheers from a modest Verizon Center crowd eager to see the playmaking guard in his new home. After a slow start, Wall sparked Washington in the second quarter, when the Wizards took control of the game. The rookie had five assists in the period as Washington built an 18-point lead.
Nick Young, starting in place of the injured Gilbert Arenas, had 24 points for the Wizards (3-1), while reserve JaVale McGee scored 16 points on a variety of dunks and layups against Atlanta’s smaller frontcourt.
Jordan Crawford had 30 points for the Hawks (0-3).
