EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) – Dwight Howard has participated in his first practice with the Los Angeles Lakers, going through a lengthy workout with no concerns about his surgically repaired back.
Howard worked out with the Lakers’ new starting five Tuesday during an afternoon practice at the Lakers’ training complex.
The six-time All-Star center had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back last spring. He hasn’t committed to any timetable for his debut with the Lakers, who acquired him in a four-team trade in August.
Kobe Bryant says Howard looked as healthy as any other player. Pau Gasol also was impressed after going up against Howard during one-on-one drills.
Howard says he feels fine, but doesn’t know if he’s close to full health. He’s hopeful he can play in a preseason game.
