NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) – The Boston Celtics opened training camp with a three-hour practice in a sweltering gym in Newport, R.I.
The Celtics returned to Salve Regina University for the third straight year. Ray Allen says it’s good to get the team away from Boston so it has a chance to bond.
That’s especially true this year, with new additions Shaquille O’Neal and Jermaine O’Neal expected to play major roles. Center Kendrick Perkins is probably out until February while he recovers from knee surgery.
Shaq said he’s known many of his new teammates for most of their careers. He doesn’t expect there to be any trouble adjusting. Kevin Garnett said it already seems like they’ve been playing together a long time.
