WASHINGTON (AP) – NBA Commissioner David Stern has advised Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards not to talk about the former All-Star’s felony gun conviction.
The Wizards said Thursday that the commissioner suggested it was time to look forward and not look back at the events that led to Arenas’ 50-game suspension and one-month sentence in a halfway house last season.
Wizards owner Ted Leonsis told The Washington Post he would comply with the commissioner to avoid getting fined. The Wizards clarified Leonsis’ comments on Thursday morning, saying the commissioner did not order the team to keep quiet about the matter under threat of penalty.
Nevertheless, Wizards spokesman Kurt Kehl says Leonsis agrees with the commissioner’s suggestion.
