DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -Chicago general manager John Paxson considers Luol Deng a big part of the Bulls future after the restricted free agent signed a six-year contract with the Chicago Bulls.
“Signing Luol has always been a priority for this organization and we have always felt that he was a big part of our future,” Paxson said Thursday in a statement.
The team did not release details of the deal announced Wednesday, but it is reportedly worth $80 million, with $71 million in guaranteed money.
The 23-year-old Deng averaged 17.0 points and 6.4 rebounds last season.
“Chicago is where I have always wanted to be,” said Deng, who enters his fifth season in the league.
Originally drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the first round in 2004, the Bulls acquired Deng’s draft rights in a draft-night deal.
