UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West has pleaded guilty to weapons and traffic charges in Maryland.
West entered his plea Thursday in Prince George’s County Circuit Court. Judge Graydon McKee sentenced him to eight months of electronic monitoring, two years of unsupervised probation, 40 hours of community service and psychological counseling.
West told the judge he knows he has been “put on a pedestal” because he can “dribble a basketball” and worries about letting down youth who look up to athletes.
West was accompanied in court by his mother, girlfriend and uncle.
Authorities say the basketball player was carrying two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun and a Bowie knife while speeding on a three-wheel motorcycle on a highway last September.
