THE VILLAGE, Okla. (AP) -Kevin Durant says being able to stay in Oklahoma City long-term “is a great feeling” and that the Thunder’s “best years are ahead.”
Durant spoke Friday at a youth basketball camp, a day after he signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2015-16 season. The contract is for the maximum amount allowed by the league, about $85 million.
Durant says the team’s decision to offer him such a contract as soon as they could “showed they cared about me as a person” and he says he wanted to reciprocate that loyalty.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti says Durant’s humble attitude concerning the contract demonstrates why he is a unique NBA superstar.
