SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -The Sacramento Kings have signed rookie center-forward Hassan Whiteside.
The team announced Thursday it had reached a deal with the second-round draft pick, chosen 33rd overall. The 7-foot, 235-pound Whiteside, left Marshall after his freshman season to enter the NBA draft. He averaged 13.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 5.35 blocks in 34 games for the Thundering Herd, earning Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors.
Whiteside set school records for most blocks in a season and career with 182, the fourth-highest season total in Division I history and the second-most by a freshman. He led the nation with three triple-doubles.
