DALLAS (AP) -The Dallas Mavericks have made Dirk Nowitzki a “significant” contract offer and hope to get a response as soon as Saturday.
Team president Donnie Nelson made the offer during a meeting Friday with Nowitzki’s adviser, Holger Geschwindner. He was taking the contract to Nowitzki to think about overnight, and another meeting was planned for Saturday.
Nelson says everything is going “in a positive direction.”
The most Nowitzki could re-sign for is a four-year deal worth $96 million with a no-trade clause. The 2007 NBA MVP has spent his entire career in Dallas and is the franchise leader in points and rebounds. He has led them to 10 straight 50-win seasons.
