MIAMI (AP) -For Dwyane Wade, the start of free agency was predictable. He got courted by Pat Riley.
The Miami Heat contacted a slew of top free agents when the clock struck 12:01 a.m. Thursday, a deep list that includes Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer, among others.
And of course, Wade was atop the list.
After seven seasons with Miami, Wade doesn’t want to leave, yet says it’s up to the Heat to put together a roster that will help him contend for more championships.
Riley was already at work on that in the first minutes of free agency, setting up meetings in Los Angeles with some top targets. The Heat traveling party included Riley, coach Erik Spoelstra and minority owner Nick Arison, among others.
