DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks have selected Gonzaga center Kelly Olynyk (OH'-lin-ick) amid reports that the 13th overall pick in the NBA draft was headed to the Boston Celtics.
The Mavericks entered Thursday night's draft intent on clearing salary cap space for a run at center Dwight Howard in free agency, and moving down in the draft helps.
Dallas is in the midst of a roster makeover for the third straight year since winning the franchise's first championship in 2011.
Olynyk averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds in helping Gonzaga to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
