MILWAUKEE (AP) -The Milwaukee Bucks plan to send forwards Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to the New Jersey Nets for forward Richard Jefferson, a person with direct knowledge of the deal said Thursday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the deal wasn’t completed.
Milwaukee has been looking to rid itself of several bad contracts. It will trade the rookie it selected last season with the No. 6 pick along with the rest of Simmons’ contract. Simmons has two years and a little more than $20 million left on his deal.
The Nets get cap room and give the Bucks an athletic small forward. Jefferson averaged 22.6 points last season and has three years and more than $42 million left on his contract.
The deal was first reported by ESPN.com on Thursday.
