WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Wizards have taken Lazar Hayward from Marquette with the 30th overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft.
The 6-foot-6 Hayward isn’t expected to play for the Wizards, however. Washington had a proposed deal to swap the 30th and 35th picks with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 23rd and 56th selections, pending NBA approval.
The No. 23 pick by Minnesota was 6-foot-7 forward Trevor Booker from Clemson.
The Wizards earlier chose John Wall with the No. 1 overall pick and struck a deal to get veteran guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 overall selection from the Chicago Bulls. The No. 17 pick was Kevin Seraphin from French Guyana.
