NEW ORLEANS (AP) -The Hornets’ owners say Chris Paul is the cornerstone of their franchise and that their goal going into Thursday’s draft is to build around the three-time All-Star – not to trade him.
Owner George Shinn says in a statement released Wednesday that he and partner Gary Chouest want to see Paul in a Hornets uniform for the remainder of his career.
The statement comes one day after new coach Monty Williams said Paul was “the main thing” that excited him about taking over in New Orleans and that he could not envision starting next season without him.
The Hornets have the 11th overall pick in Thursday night’s draft, and general manager Jeff Bower has said he’s entertaining unspecified trade offers for the pick.
