A look at the countdown to the start of the July 1 NBA free agency period, when stars such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and others are expected to hit the market:
—
DAYS REMAINING: 30
AT STAKE: For stars like Wade and James, the difference between staying with their respective teams and signing elsewhere could be about $30 million. Either way, a maximum contract for either likely would start around $95 million for five years, or $125 million for six years if Wade was to stay in Miami and James remain in Cleveland.
SILENT LEBRON: Over the weekend, while appearing at an amateur dunk contest in Cleveland, James offered no hints about his future. Said nothing at all, in fact. “There’s nothing to say right now,” said Maverick Carter, James’ manager and business partner. Fans in Cleveland surely wanted more.
n’t-happening could go off in Atlanta between June 26-28.
TWEET OF THE DAY: From Chris Bosh, who says, “Someone just asked me where I’m going for 2010. I can’t even escape the madness outside the country.” Bosh had tweeted that he was vacationing in St. Tropez.
