INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The NBA has assessed Miami guard Dwyane Wade with a flagrant foul for his actions during a Game 2 loss to Indiana, though the penalty will not affect his status for Game 3 on Sunday night.
League officials were reviewing a play in which Wade hit Pacers forward Lance Stephenson in the back of the head with a forearm. During pregame warm-ups, Wade told reporters the play was not ``malicious'' but that he wasn't surprised by the decision.
Coach Erik Spoelstra said the Heat had no control over the league's decision and that his team simply needs to move on from the controversy. LeBron James said league officials need to protect the heads of players but explained some plays are excessive and others are just basketball plays.
