WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) -Playing better may not save the Orlando Magic’s season. Playing harder just might.
The team that charged into the Eastern Conference finals with 14 straight wins rolled over Saturday night when it lost its hustle – and its third game in a row – against the Boston Celtics. The Magic lost 94-71 and trailed by at least 14 points throughout the last three quarters.
Another loss Monday night would give Boston a sweep and end Orlando’s hopes for a second consecutive berth in the NBA finals.
The teams returned to practice Sunday and Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said he was shocked his team didn’t play Game 3 with more intensity and determination. Celtics coach Doc Rivers wants his team to ignore the fact that no NBA team has won a series after trailing 3-0.
