INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -The Indiana Pacers promoted David Morway to general manager on Wednesday.
Morway, who had been senior vice president of basketball operations, will oversee salary cap issues and help president of basketball operations Larry Bird with all personnel decisions. He adds that to his previous duties of overseeing the day-to-day operation and administration of the basketball division.
He’ll try to help the Pacers return to the playoffs after they missed the postseason the past two years.
“I know what the expectations are and what the Pacers mean to the city and the state,” Morway said in a statement. “I can promise that we will work diligently to help fulfill those expectations. I’m excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for us.”
Morway has been with the franchise for 10 years.
“I’m very happy to have David by my side,” Bird said in a release. “This newly expanded role maximizes David’s skills and experience.”
