MILWAUKEE (AP) -Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond relied on Brandon Jennings, Andrew Bogut and 17 other players to make the playoffs for the first time in four years.
He says that patchwork approach will have to continue next season.
Milwaukee is still bogged down by a bloated budget left when Hammond took over two years ago. The NBA’s Executive of the Year this season proved he could cut costs and produce a relevant team.
The Bucks went 46-36 and took Atlanta to a Game 7 in the first round of the playoffs. Now, Hammond will have to replace or re-sign half his roster this offseason.
He says it won’t be easy because the Bucks will pay nearly $30 million to an injured Michael Redd, backup center Dan Gadzuric and backup Charlie Bell.
