SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -Houston point guard Rafer Alston left Game 6 of the playoffs Friday night against Utah in the second quarter after spraining his right ankle.
X-ray results were negative, but the Rockets said the sprain was bad enough that Alston would not play in the second half of a game Houston needed to win to avoid elimination. He was scheduled for an MRI exam on Saturday.
Alston missed the first two games of the series with a strained right hamstring and the Rockets lost both. After his return, the Rockets won two of the next three to force a sixth game.
He averaged more than 16 points in the three games since his return. Alston had eight points and two assists when he left the game after missing a layup with 5:10 left in the second quarter.
