MIAMI (AP) -NBA commissioner David Stern reiterated that coaches need to “comply with the rules” and be careful when criticizing league policies or its referees.
Stern, speaking before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first-round series between Boston and Miami, said coaches can be sending “very bad messaging” to the league’s fans. He offered similar comments in Oklahoma City on Thursday, prompting Lakers coach Phil Jackson to say Stern was being “heavy-handed.”
Before Friday night’s Game 3 in Miami, Celtics coach Doc Rivers – like Jackson, someone who’s written his share of checks to the league for fines – said it’s important to remember that coaches are simply trying to do all they can to stand up for their players.
