DALLAS (AP) -With the Spurs and Mavericks meeting again in the playoffs, it’s easy to be lulled into thinking this is the same old, same old – two in-state rivals who know each other so well that the winner will simply be whichever team makes the most of its opportunities.
That really isn’t the case.
The Mavericks reinvented themselves with a blockbuster trade in mid-February.
The Spurs were forced to shake things up when Tony Parker broke a bone in his right hand in March. They played so well with George Hill starting at point guard that Parker came off the bench all six games after he returned.
Although these teams played Wednesday night, both clubs held a lot back.
So their Game 1 meeting Sunday night will be the first real battle since their overhauls.
