CLEVELAND (AP) – LeBron James is sitting out Cleveland’s season finale against Washington to rest up for the playoffs.
Cavs coach David Blatt said James, who also missed Sunday’s game in Boston, is the only starter who will not play Wednesday night. All-Star guard Kyrie Irving is expected to get some playing time after being slowed by a sore hip.
The Cavs will open the playoffs this weekend against the Celtics, the team Blatt rooted for growing up in Massachusetts.
Blatt said the decision to rest James was made last week, shortly after the Cavs secured the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Blatt said he discussed it with James on Tuesday and they felt ”it was best” to give him a second day off.
The Wizards are sitting starters John Wall, Bradley Beal, Nene and Paul Pierce. Washington will open the playoffs against Toronto or Chicago.
