Only two playoff matchups, one in each conference, had been determined entering the final night of the regular season. Everything was settled in the East after victories by Chicago and Miami, but some seeds were still up for grabs in the West.
Dallas clinched the No. 2 spot by beating San Antonio – a victory that dropped the Spurs to seventh and set up a playoff series between the Texas rivals.
