SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -The San Antonio Spurs have decided to rest Tim Duncan for Sunday’s game against Sacramento, giving a rare day off to their star big man and his aching knees.
Even with the Spurs still in the race for the Southwest Division title and playoff positioning, coach Gregg Popovich decided Duncan should sit when they face the NBA-worst Kings. Duncan is expected to be back for Monday night’s game at Golden State.
Duncan came out of the fourth quarter of the Spurs’ loss to Portland last Wednesday because of his sore joints. He says the soreness doesn’t bother him much except during back-to-back games, and the Spurs’ Northern California trip is their last back-to-back set of the season.
San Antonio began the night a half-game behind Houston for the division lead.
