CLEVELAND (AP) -A little rest was all LeBron James needed.
James, who sat out of practice for two days to rest his ailing back, started Wednesday night when the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted the New Jersey Nets.
Cavs coach Mike Brown wants to be cautious with the NBA’s leading scorer, who has been bothered by back spasms for weeks. They became more severe during the second half of home losses to Chicago and Orlando. The team was off Sunday and James didn’t participate in practices Monday and Tuesday.
Brown will try to get James as much time off as possible between the now and the time the playoffs begin, whether it’s sitting out a practice or not playing in a game.
“This thing will be day-to-day the rest of the year,” he said.
James was getting treatment on his back and was unavailable to reporters before Wednesday’s game.
The Cavaliers are trying to wrap up the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Cleveland has a two-game lead over Washington and a three-game cushion over Philadelphia with five games left.
