CLEVELAND (AP) -Cavaliers reserve forward Anderson Varejao missed his third straight game with a sore left hamstring.
Cavs coach Mike Brown said the team decided to keep Varejao out of Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks as a precaution. Varejao, who injured his hamstring a week ago in a loss at San Antonio, could return for Sunday’s game in Boston.
Brown said Varejao was running around at practice on Thursday “like the Tasmanian Devil” but the team wants him healthy for the playoffs.
Varejao is averaging 8.7 points and 7.8 rebounds, and is one of the team’s best defenders. The Cavaliers believe he should get strong consideration for the NBA’s sixth man award.
