EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -Interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe missed the New Jersey Nets’ game against the Miami Heat on Monday night because of an illness in the family.
The Nets, who are riding a seven-game losing streak, said Vandeweghe’s mother is gravely ill. Assistant coach John Loyer was to coach the team against Miami.
“It will be a little different but he has to attend to some family matters,” forward Jarvis Hayes said. “I wish him all the best.”
The last time Loyer coached a game was at the University of Cincinnati in the early 1990s when then-coach Bob Huggins was suspended for a game for arguing with the officials.
