BOSTON (AP) -Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is sitting out Boston’s game against the Orlando Magic, giving newly acquired backup Stephon Marbury his first start since he was acquired by the defending NBA champions.
Rondo sprained his right ankle Friday night against Cleveland. Coach Doc Rivers said before Sunday’s game that he was doubtful to play.
Marbury ended a tumultuous tenure with the New York Knicks and signed with the Celtics on Feb. 27. He was the second sub in the Celtics’ starting lineup, as power forward Kevin Garnett has missed eight games with a strained right knee muscle.
