DALLAS (AP) -Mavericks forward Josh Howard will not play in Dallas’ game Saturday night against the Washington Wizards because of a sprained left ankle.
Howard, the team’s third-leading scorer averaging 18 points, did not play the second half of Dallas’ game Thursday night at New Orleans.
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Howard will visit a specialist Monday to determine if this is a long-term injury.
“We’re hoping for the best,” Howard said. “If he’s in pain and it affects him, then he can’t play. We need to get him better.”
A sprained left ankle cost Howard 11 games in November and December. He aggravated the injury Monday against Oklahoma City, but played the entire game Wednesday against San Antonio and started Thursday before leaving.
Carlisle said Devean George will start in Howard’s place against the Wizards.
