MIAMI (AP) -Toronto forward Andrea Bargnani was shaken up early in the third quarter of the Raptors’ game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, after a nasty collision under the basket.
Bargnani, the first overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, was driving the right baseline with 9:57 left in the period when he went airborne near the basket. He collided with Miami forward Alexander Johnson, who was called for a flagrant foul on the play.
The back of Bargnani’s head slammed on the court. He remained down for about three minutes, before walking to the Raptors’ bench assisted by medical personnel from both teams.
Even after the hit, Bargnani returned to the court to make the two free throws, doing so even while Heat team neurologist Dr. Allan Herskowitz was being summoned to the Raptors’ locker room, where Bargnani met him after the second foul shot.
Heat team dentist Dr. Larry Brown was also brought in to examine Bargnani, who entered the game averaging 10.3 points.
