EL PASO, Texas (AP) -Stefon Jackson made 17 of 18 free throws and finished with 29 points in Texas-El Paso’s 87-75 victory against Southern Miss on Saturday night.
The Miners (13-8, 4-3 Conference USA) took control with an 11-2 spurt that gave them an 81-66 lead with 3:41 remaining.
The run included a pair of four-point sequences. Julyan Stone was fouled while making a 3-pointer and hit the free throw. Jackson later made four free throws after he was fouled and the Golden Eagles were called for a technical.
Courtney Beasley had 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Southern Miss (13-7, 3-3). R.L. Horton added 17 points, and Craig Craft and Jeremy Wise had 12 apiece. Wise had nine assists.
