EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) – Kobe Bryant is expected to be ready for the start of next season after the Los Angeles Lakers superstar underwent surgery on his torn right rotator cuff.
Bryant had successful surgery Wednesday at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
Neal ElAttrache and Steve Lombardo performed the two-hour surgery. ElAttrache says he expects Bryant to make a full recovery, but Bryant will be out of action for roughly nine months.
Bryant hurt his right shoulder last week in New Orleans, ending his 19th NBA season. He is the third-leading scorer in league history and a five-time NBA champion.
Bryant’s last three seasons have ended early due to injury.
If Bryant meets his surgeon’s nine-month timetable, he would return shortly before the start of 2015-16 season.
